Meet Sara! As our General Office Administrator, she has been a key part of Anenta for over two years, keeping our operations running with all things admin and coordination. With a strong passion for sustainability and public health, she plays an important role in supporting our healthcare waste management services.
1. How long have you been working for Anenta?
I have worked for Anenta now for 2 years and 2 months
2. What’s your official title in the business?
I am the General Office Administrator at Anenta.
3. What does a typical day at work look like for you?
A typical day for me is quite varied, with a strong focus on administrative and coordination tasks. I usually start by reviewing my calendar and preparing data reports for any scheduled meetings, where I am responsible for taking minutes. Alongside this, I manage a range of administrative duties, including ensuring site details on Vector are up to date, maintaining accurate location mappings, and updating the risk register. I regularly communicate with vendors and ICBs, issue remediation notices, and follow up on pre-acceptance audits. While much of my work is administrative, it plays a role in keeping processes running smoothly and ensuring compliance.
4. What attracted you to a career in healthcare waste management?
What attracted me to a career in healthcare waste management was my interest in environmental sustainability. During my primary school teaching degree, I specialised in climate change and global citizenship, and completed my dissertation on climate change in education. This gave me a strong awareness of the environmental impact of different industries and the importance of responsible waste management.
After taking a step back from teaching, I was particularly drawn to healthcare waste management because it sits at the intersection of environmental responsibility and public health. The role allows me to apply my interest in sustainability in a practical way, ensuring that waste is managed safely, compliantly, and with consideration for its environmental impact. It felt like a meaningful way to contribute to both environmental protection and essential healthcare services.
5. What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learnt at Anenta so far?
The most surprising thing I’ve learnt at Anenta so far is just how complex and regulated healthcare waste management is. Before starting, I hadn’t fully appreciated the level of detail involved in ensuring compliance. I’ve also been surprised by how much coordination is required between different stakeholders to keep everything running smoothly.
6. How do you like to spend your time outside work?
I enjoy cooking, colouring, watching women’s football and most importantly spending time with my husband, my friends and my family.
7. Describe yourself in three words.
Empathetic, efficient and approachable
8. Are you an early bird or night owl?
I am an early bird. I always wake up at dawn for prayer and you will rarely find me awake past 10pm.
9. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
What is meant for you will never pass you by, and if it passes you by, it was never meant for you.
10. What’s your favourite thing on Netflix at the moment?
Any true crime documentary!
11. What one piece of advice would you give to Anenta’s clients?
Make sure you complete your pre-acceptance audits so that your waste can continue to be collected!
12. What’s your favourite book and why?
I read the Quran almost every day. It keeps me grounded and encourages me to reflect, practice patience, and self-discipline. I find that it gives me a strong sense of perspective, which I carry into my day-to-day life.
13. What’s your favourite film and why?
My favourite film has always been Coraline. Watching it now always gives me a sense of warmth and nostalgia, and I watch it way more frequently than I’d like to admit! It is the movie that made me fall in love with horror and I just love the animation, the mystery and the masterpiece that it is!
14. What achievement are you most proud of?
My greatest accomplishment is making my parents proud when I graduated from university, becoming one of the first Muslim primary school teachers in Ireland. It was a moment that reflected years of hard work, perseverance, and dedication, and it means a lot to me personally and culturally.
15. What’s at the top of your bucket list?
Visiting the Maldives is at the top of my bucket list.
16. Favourite sweet treat?
I don’t generally have a sweet tooth, but if I had to choose, I would choose carrot cake.
17. What’s your favourite animal?
I love cats and elephants. My cat, Pumpkin, is my baby. I love elephants because they are gentle giants and are incredibly intelligent.
